Nestled within the natural landscape of the hills of Marco de Canaveses, a house known as Casa do Esconderijo (House of the Hideaway) emerges. This pre-existing dwelling, opening onto the river and mountains, needs to be converted into tourist accommodation. To this end, a construction and expansion project was necessary.

With the aim of introducing contemporary expression into the new architecture, while preserving the traditional appearance of local constructions, the design sought to contrast two architectural languages and create a direct relationship between the old and the new. As a result, the project is designed so that the upper part of the house maintains its current style, characterized by its traditional materials, namely, yellow granite ashlar, at the ground floor level. Meanwhile, the lower floor will present a modern character, highlighted by the large glazed openings facing the Douro River.

In terms of interior functional organization, the intention is to carry out a spatial reorganization of the entire house. The ground floor will have two double bedrooms, en-suite, each with a private bathroom, and a staircase connecting to the basement level (-1), which will consist of a living room, a kitchen, an accessible bathroom, and a storage area. On the ground floor, in the area where the bathroom is currently located, a laundry room is planned.

In the area surrounding the single-family dwelling, the existing walls will be restored/remodeled and new retaining walls will be built, where the swimming pool will be located.
