“The Cork Oak Houses” showcase sustainable architecture that seeks to adapt to the Douro region's ecosystem. In response to the need to expand the Douro Suites Hotel development, eight independent units were designed, distributed throughout its grounds.

The contemporary architectural language of the new suites harmoniously dialogues with their surroundings. Access to the interior of each is through large glazed openings facing the river. The houses blend into the landscape through the use of cork as facade cladding, thus establishing a close relationship with the existing cork oak trees on the site.
